Statistics involves gathering, processing, visualizing, and making sense of data. External reviewers consistently praise our programs for their varied project work. The MSci work placement degree lets you blend academic study with practical experience as a statistical analyst at one of our partner organizations, building essential professional skills. The MacLaurin Society (MacSoc), named after Scottish mathematician Colin MacLaurin, has served as the university's Mathematics and Statistics Society since the 1950s, offering students in the School a welcoming and supportive community. Our degree programs stand out for their adaptability, allowing students to pursue combined degrees with numerous subjects across the University. Popular combinations include Mathematics with Computing Science, Economics, or Finance, though students have recently paired statistics with Management, Psychology, and Geography. Note that some combined Honors courses may have scheduling limitations.
Our alumni develop statistical, computational, quantitative, and communication abilities valuable across diverse sectors like healthcare, education, transportation, agriculture, engineering, and finance. They secure roles ranging from quality engineers and actuaries to accountants, credit risk analysts, clinical statisticians, teachers, and operational researchers. Many also pursue advanced degrees.
