Our department conducts extensive research across multiple domains including experimental psychology, cognitive neuroscience, linguistics, sensory perception, statistical analysis, psychological research methodologies, social robotics, and health cognition. We maintain significant expertise in neuroimaging and brain stimulation technologies, with research bridging both foundational and clinical neuroscience.
Our team currently includes approximately 35 faculty members, 2 distinguished fellows (Marie Curie and Adam Smith recipients), 20 research associates/assistants, and a substantial postgraduate cohort (60 students encompassing PhD candidates, Master's students, and visiting scholars). Our faculty lead numerous funded research initiatives, securing major grants from prestigious organizations like the Wellcome Trust, BBSRC, and ESRC. Through varied methodologies and experimental frameworks, our work seeks to deepen knowledge of human behavior, mental processes, and neural mechanisms across different analytical levels.
Research activities are organized within the School of Psychology, the Centre for Social, Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience (cSCAN), and the cutting-edge Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging (CCNi). Many of our researchers hold joint appointments with the School of Psychology and Neuroscience, creating interdisciplinary connections between two academic colleges (Science & Engineering, and Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences). This structure fosters integrated research spanning from molecular to systems neuroscience through diverse translational programs.
