The Master's in Land & Hydrographic Surveying provides comprehensive training in surveying principles, equipping you for professional roles in this field. Both engineering and land surveying play crucial roles in designing, constructing, and navigating infrastructure projects ranging from individual buildings to extensive transportation networks. Hydrographic professionals ensure safe navigation and port operations across waterways while supporting underwater projects like pipelines and offshore wind farms. This course is perfect for those pursuing careers in geospatial fields related to construction and mapping projects on land or at sea. As one of the UK's rare programs specializing in surveying and mapping - and the only one in Scotland - it's ideal for aspiring professionals in land, engineering, or hydrographic surveying. Our institution boasts more than five decades of expertise in geospatial science education, with curriculum developed in collaboration with industry leaders through our Geospatial Industry Advisory Board.
The program holds accreditation from both the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) upon MSc completion. Our graduates enjoy excellent career prospects, with many advancing to leadership roles globally. Participants gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology like RTK GNSS systems, drones, and laser scanning equipment. We welcome applicants with relevant industry experience, even if they don't meet standard MSc entry criteria. Instruction combines classroom teaching, practical sessions, and training with advanced surveying tools and software.
Industry demand for our graduates in natural and built environment roles remains exceptionally high, particularly for positions including Land Surveyor, Engineering Surveyor, Offshore Surveyor, Geospatial Specialist, and Reality Capture Expert. Alumni from our surveying programs have secured positions with leading organizations such as Ordnance Survey, Jacobs, Fugro, AECOM, and numerous other prominent firms in the sector.
