This program prepares graduates to lead mental health services globally, equipping them with the expertise to incorporate initiatives into broader international development goals and tackle worldwide disparities. You'll cultivate critical thinking skills to assess the challenges of applying Western mental health concepts globally, while acquiring tools to create and execute policies that alleviate mental health burdens internationally. The curriculum addresses the Grand Challenges in Global Mental Health outlined in Nature (2011), with students undertaking a research project. Special focus is given to how social and cultural contexts influence mental health understanding and treatment worldwide. Instruction draws from multiple fields including clinical psychology, social work, anthropology, sociology, law, and psychiatry, with valuable insights from individuals who have personally experienced mental health challenges.
