A collaborative initiative between the School of Molecular Biosciences and the School of Chemistry (SoC), this program offers specialized training in synthetic chemistry, bioactive compounds, and biophysical analysis methods for studying these systems. Designed for students holding strong undergraduate degrees in either Chemistry or Biological Sciences, it equips graduates with cutting-edge expertise in chemical biology.
Leverage established strengths in chemical biology and ongoing research partnerships between IMCSB and SoC across biological chemistry (Bullied, Tokatlidis, Hartley, Jamieson), biophysics (Stark, Magennis, Smith, Thomson), and structural biology (Spagnolo, Walden, Smith). Chemical biology skills are highly sought after by pharmaceutical and biotech firms, which increasingly operate across conventional disciplinary lines. As part of ScotCHEM - a consortium of seven Scottish universities - the School of Chemistry maintains rigorous standards for postgraduate education and research training. The school holds an Athena Swan Bronze Award, reflecting its dedication to advancing women in science and enhancing the academic environment for everyone. Students gain from our industry connections, including regular seminars by visiting scientists from pharmaceutical companies.
