Since the 1600s, Glasgow has served as a vital hub for economic, social, and cultural interactions between Scotland and North America. These ties, ranging from historic tobacco commerce to contemporary Transatlantic Sessions musical events, form the basis for American Studies at the University of Glasgow - a pioneer in examining American society and culture within Britain. Glasgow was among the earliest UK institutions to prioritize scholarly exploration of US literature, history, and political systems.
Our College of Arts Graduate School fosters an interdisciplinary, collaborative atmosphere for research students, providing comprehensive support through various services, courses, and skill-building initiatives. Within this intellectually rich setting, the college nurtures a dynamic, multicultural student body engaged in both taught master's and research degree programs. Every academic discipline within the college produces groundbreaking, influential research that shapes global discourse.
The Master of Philosophy (Research) program demands rigorous specialized study and original investigation that makes a meaningful addition to existing knowledge.
