An MA by Research in Latin American Studies allows you to pursue an in-depth project driven by your personal interests. This prestigious degree can lead to academic careers or enhance job prospects in education, government, or private industry. The program lasts one year full-time or two years part-time, ideal for those completing their first research degree or preparing for PhD studies in Modern Languages. You'll produce a 40,000-word thesis showcasing original research that advances the field, followed by an oral defense (viva voce). Your research topic will be developed with guidance from supervisors, and we advise starting discussions before applying to draft an initial proposal. Swansea's Latin American Studies research connects closely with American Studies through CEPSAM (Centre for the Comparative Study of Portugal, Spain and the Americas), specializing in 20th-century Latin American fiction and testimonial literature, particularly Argentinian Studies. You'll receive dedicated supervision from two experts, with biweekly meetings initially and regular sessions afterward. As a researcher, you'll participate in training workshops and present your work at departmental seminars, the annual postgraduate symposium, and the College of Arts and Humanities conference.
