The School of Mathematics & Statistics brings together globally renowned research in pure and applied mathematics and statistics, spanning fields like mathematical biology, fluid dynamics, geometry, topology, and environmental statistics. As one of the UK's largest departments, it boasts a substantial team of academics and postgraduate researchers. Our work encompasses diverse branches of Pure and Applied Mathematics, with overlapping interests creating a dynamic research ecosystem. Internationally recognized for excellence, our faculty maintain active collaborations with mathematicians worldwide and across the UK. The school regularly hosts visiting scholars from abroad and organizes multiple seminar series featuring speakers from international institutions. Graduate students hone their presentation skills through dedicated PhD seminars. Research specializations include: Algebra, Analysis, Continuum Mechanics, Geometry and Topology, Geophysical & Astrophysical Fluid Dynamics, Integrable Systems and Mathematical Physics, Mathematical Biology, and Number Theory.
