The Glasgow MMus provides a dynamic and comprehensive foundation in Musicology, encompassing its diverse contemporary forms. While firmly rooted in classical historical and analytical approaches, the program also explores exciting modern advancements in the discipline - from cultural musicology spanning all genres and styles, to practice-led research emerging from our community's active musical engagement. Students engage with pioneering digital methodologies and cross-disciplinary critique, including analysis of modern audiovisual media. Our core faculty produces internationally renowned research covering a thousand years of Western classical music, alongside jazz, film scores, and popular genres. Experts in Composition, Sonic Arts, Music Industries, and Ethnomusicology further enrich our curriculum.
This degree equips graduates for professional paths in music and creative sectors, as well as adjacent areas like media production. It also establishes the academic groundwork for advanced musicological research at doctoral level.
