Philosophy involves a methodical approach to addressing deep inquiries about knowledge, existence, ethics, science, and human behavior through logical reasoning and debate. We organize reading retreats for students, often held in the Highlands, alongside an active undergraduate Philosophy Society.
You'll gain versatile skills beneficial for your professional future, such as assessing arguments, interpreting texts, analytical thinking, clear and precise communication, and challenging assumptions. Many alumni pursue advanced Philosophy degrees or academic careers. Recent Philosophy graduates have secured roles at Hydrogen Group (recruitment consultant), Hopscotch Films (TV researcher), The Guardian (audience editor), and the Civil Service fast track program (Treasury and MoD).
This program covers fundamental philosophical concepts about reality's nature. Participants examine key topics in formal logic, metaphysics, philosophy of religion, and philosophy of science, particularly focusing on what entities can truly be said to exist.
After completing your second year, you'll have explored major philosophical disciplines and learned practical methods for applying these concepts to formulate your own responses to first and second-year discussion topics.
