Philosophy is a disciplined approach to seeking well-reasoned solutions to deep inquiries about knowledge, existence, ethics, scientific understanding, and what it means to be human. We organize student reading retreats, often held in the Scottish Highlands, alongside an active undergraduate Philosophy Society.
You'll cultivate versatile skills highly valued in professional settings, including critical analysis of arguments, text interpretation, logical reasoning, clear written and verbal communication, and challenging conventional wisdom. Many alumni pursue advanced Philosophy degrees and academic careers. Recent Philosophy graduates have secured positions at organizations like Hydrogen Group (as recruitment specialists), Hopscotch Films (as television researchers), The Guardian (in audience development roles), and through the Civil Service fast-track program (at the Treasury and Ministry of Defence).
This program examines fundamental philosophical concepts about reality's essence. Participants will investigate key topics in formal logic, metaphysical studies, religious philosophy, and scientific philosophy, concentrating on determining what entities can truly be said to exist.
After completing your second year, you'll have engaged with philosophy's central disciplines while gaining practical skills to formulate your own responses to the fundamental questions addressed in years 1 and 2.
