This degree program explores cinema and television as powerful influences in contemporary culture, offering both entertainment and education.
The curriculum serves as excellent training for diverse roles across media, arts, and cultural sectors. Recent alumni have secured positions including location coordinator for Scottish film productions, researcher at the British Film Institute, and intern at Park Circus film distribution.
Our established graduates hold prominent positions in creative industries, employed by major broadcasters like BBC and STV, or working as arts coordinators, journalists, and media scholars.
The first two years establish foundational knowledge through theoretical, critical, and historical studies. During Honours years, students can blend core and elective courses for specialized learning, while examining how practical work deepens media comprehension. Required courses Screen Analysis and Screen Histories teach film/TV analytical methods and historical contexts.
Options may cover regional cinema (such as postwar Japanese films or Scottish productions), genres (including animation, film noir), production techniques (like screenwriting), and thematic studies (from screen acting to children's programming).
