Our English Literature program offers comprehensive exploration of literary studies, drawing on our distinguished faculty's expertise across diverse fields such as American literature, Irish studies, postcolonial works, critical theory, creative writing, and interdisciplinary connections between literature and other disciplines. Students enjoy privileged access to our exceptional Hunterian collections and Library resources, particularly strong in 18th- and 19th-century works, travel literature, illuminated manuscripts, and important author-specific collections.
The curriculum begins with poetry studies before progressing to narrative fiction. Students cultivate essential abilities in critical analysis, creative composition, and literary debate while discovering how performance and oral interpretation enrich textual understanding. Both courses feature an international selection of texts spanning various historical periods. The program also provides creative writing opportunities in both poetry and fiction.
