Our English Literature program offers comprehensive exploration of literary studies, drawing on our faculty's specialized knowledge across diverse fields such as American literature, Irish studies, postcolonial works, critical theory, creative writing, and interdisciplinary connections with arts, media, and sciences. Students gain privileged access to our exceptional Hunterian and Library resources, featuring notable collections from the 18th-19th centuries, travel literature, illuminated manuscripts, and important single-author archives.
The curriculum begins with poetry studies before progressing to narrative fiction. Throughout the program, students cultivate essential abilities in critical analysis, creative composition, and literary argumentation while discovering how performance and oral interpretation deepen textual understanding. Both courses present a rich variety of works spanning different historical periods and cultural traditions, with additional opportunities to hone creative writing skills in poetry and fiction.
An English Literature degree commands significant respect across employment sectors, valued not only in arts, education, and media but equally in public relations, finance, business, and technology. Our graduates develop future-ready competencies including persuasive argumentation, cognitive adaptability, collaborative skills, creative thinking, and analytical rigor. With dedicated career support services, we actively prepare students for diverse professional pathways in the evolving job market.
