History courses examine early modern and contemporary eras, addressing complex issues about how political, social, and cultural transformations affect individuals, communities, and geographical areas.Our Literature, Film and Theatre Studies Department delivers a dynamic, adaptable program that enhances your literary skills while incorporating film studies, creative writing, and drama. Unique opportunities include crafting original Arthurian-inspired narratives, editing unpublished Renaissance sonnets, and handling rare Shakespeare-era volumes from our special collections.Our internationally recognized faculty create a vibrant global learning environment. You'll benefit from strong regional history resources, including our partnership with the Essex Record Office, among Britain's finest county archives.Assessments typically involve essays, analytical exercises, research plans, and a substantial dissertation. Weekly seminars involve small-group discussions with approximately 15 participants.International study optionsEnhance your academic journey by spending a term or year at one of our global partner institutions. Our four-year program includes an optional overseas study period or international work placement during the third year, maintaining the same curriculum as the three-year degree.International study develops cultural awareness, broadens educational perspectives, and showcases valuable skills like adaptability and initiative to future employers.Professional placement opportunityUpon enrollment, you may opt to incorporate a work placement year. A-levels: BBB - BBC or 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of 2 full A-levels, including B in one essay based subject.

BTEC: DDM - DMM or 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of the equivalent of 2 full A-levels.

Combined qualifications on the UCAS tariff: 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of 2 full A levels or equivalent.

IB: 30 - 29 points or three Higher Level certificates with 555-554.

IB Career-related Programme: We consider combinations of IB Diploma Programme courses with BTECs or other qualifications.

QAA-approved Access to HE Diploma: 6 level 3 credits at Distinction and 39 level 3 credits at Merit, depending on subject studied - advice on acceptability can be provided

T-levels: We consider T-levels on a case-by-case basis, depending on subject studied. The offer for most courses is Distinction overall. Depending on the course applied for there may be additional requirements, which may include a specific grade in the Core.
