The 20th century brought radical transformations to Central and Eastern Europe's nations, marked by conflict, upheaval, and sweeping societal shifts that created an era of profound instability. The fall of communist regimes and ensuing transitions have left lasting challenges that persist in the present day. Our exploration spans from the Baltic states to the Balkan peninsula and across Eurasia, examining pivotal developments in this strategically important region. As a focal point for research, the University houses a government-supported Centre of Excellence for Russian, Central & East European Studies, organizing year-round cultural, academic, and social initiatives. While optional, students can choose to learn Hungarian, Czech, Polish, or Russian languages.
At the University of Glasgow's Q-Step Centre, we provide specialized programs that strengthen quantitative competencies - equipping students to process information and interpret statistical findings. Our Q-Step Centre delivers five distinct degree options that incorporate quantitative methodology training within social and political sciences curricula. Each program is designed to foster insightful perspectives on societal dynamics. You'll acquire skills to interpret statistical analyses, effectively communicate your findings, and evaluate their real-world significance. These competencies prove invaluable both for assessing research data in scholarly publications and for critically examining statistics in media and official documents. Approximately 25% of your coursework will focus on quantitative approaches, with opportunities to gain practical experience through internships with prestigious partner organizations.
