Celtic Studies offers a unique blend of language learning and exploration of both ancient and contemporary Celtic traditions across Britain and Ireland. You'll engage with the rich heritage of Celtic-speaking communities alongside leading experts in the field while mastering one of the British Isles' Celtic tongues.
Our institution maintains vibrant exchange programs with Trinity College Dublin and various North American and Australian universities that specialize in Celtic subjects. Alumni have forged diverse career paths in education (both primary and secondary levels), museum curation, heritage preservation, publishing, music, business ventures, and academic research through postgraduate studies.
Students who completed Celtic Civilisation coursework in their initial years can opt to learn Scottish Gaelic or pair medieval Celtic history with an ancient Celtic language. The curriculum also features specialized courses covering distinct facets of Celtic heritage, including early Irish and Scottish belief systems, Scottish language policy, Gaelic oral traditions, ancient Gaelic texts, medieval Welsh writings, and Celtic artistic expressions. Advanced students can select from historical courses focusing on medieval Ireland, the Northern Britons, and Pictish civilization. The program culminates with an independent research project, enabling you to investigate a self-selected Celtic-related subject while honing your autonomous research skills.
