Archaeology explores humanity's past by examining artifacts, ancient sites, structures, and environments.
You'll develop hands-on excavation skills both in the UK and internationally. Previous
participants have joined digs throughout Europe and the Middle East, spanning locations like the Baltic region, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, and Portugal.
Our program strongly focuses on acquiring real-world heritage experience
through archaeological methods and promoting archaeology's societal value. We
organize both day trips and overnight excursions to historic locations, natural settings, museums, and other cultural sites.
You can contribute to ongoing faculty research initiatives involving site surveys, excavations, archival work, and collection studies, while also gaining professional experience at heritage institutions through our partner network. We additionally assist students in securing positions on European excavation teams.
Various industries, from finance to hospitality, appreciate the adaptable competencies developed through archaeology studies, including collaboration, hands-on troubleshooting, and analytical thinking.
Numerous alumni pursue careers in archaeology and heritage preservation with
public agencies, nonprofit organizations, and cultural institutions across Scotland and internationally,
such as the National Trust for Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland, Archaeology Scotland, the British Museum, National Museums of Scotland and Glasgow Life, as well as UK-based and international archaeological service providers like GUARD Archaeology Ltd.
