The Common Law degree is tailored for those aiming to practice in common law regions including England and Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Canada, and India. This program is not intended for those pursuing legal careers in Scotland. The curriculum provides rigorous academic depth with diverse elective choices. The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Common Law is a challenging intellectual pursuit that delivers comprehensive training in fundamental legal principles. Students can complete the Ordinary level in three years of full-time study or pursue Honours over four years.
Glasgow's LLB (Common Law) stands out for its adaptability, focus on building employer-valued competencies, and options for international study and work placements. This creates a robust foundation for various career paths, including public sector roles, local government, media, business, global organizations, management, finance, social services, and law enforcement. Aspiring lawyers in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland will find this degree particularly valuable for establishing their legal academic background.
For future barristers in England and Wales, the LLB (Common Law) meets the Bar Standards Board's academic prerequisites for legal education. Graduates must then complete a postgraduate Bar course as part of their vocational training, followed by a year-long pupillage to fully qualify. The degree also satisfies Northern Ireland's qualification standards when combined with the Bar course at Belfast's Institute of Professional Legal Studies.
