Our four-year LLB Law with Criminology (including foundation year) program helps you build specialized knowledge while enhancing your academic abilities. The foundation year (Year Zero) provides comprehensive preparation in these areas, setting you up for three subsequent years of undergraduate studies at Essex. Upon successfully completing Year Zero through our Essex Pathways Department, you'll advance to finish your degree with Essex Law School.
We focus on teaching relevant law. Unlike conventional law schools, we embrace greater freedom, creativity, and innovation, ensuring your legal education stays current and adapts to societal changes. Our perspective is internationally minded, justice-oriented, and actively addresses real-world challenges.
The LLB Law with Criminology offers rigorous academic training that combines legal studies with criminology. This provides a solid foundation in contemporary criminal law and justice issues within broader social contexts. We highlight how English and Welsh law fits within European and international frameworks.
You'll cultivate a critical understanding of law's role within social, political, and economic systems. Beyond learning legal principles, you'll examine law's societal function, legal philosophy, policy matters, and reform initiatives. The program encourages exploration and debate of complex questions like: Should crime be punished? How can we prevent criminal behavior? You'll develop skills to analyze, assess, and respond to diverse, sometimes opposing viewpoints.
