The Erasmus Mundus International Master's in Managing Art & Cultural Heritage in Global Markets (MAGMa) examines current challenges in the art and cultural heritage (A & CH) sector through historical, theoretical, and practical frameworks. Its core objective is to enhance professionals' capabilities in navigating this increasingly intricate and expanding global field. Through partnerships between European and international universities and cultural organizations, the program merges academic knowledge with real-world applications, offering comprehensive insights into the social, economic, legal, and cultural dimensions of A & CH. Students gain hands-on exposure to diverse settings, including museums, heritage sites, auction houses, galleries, and foundations. This program unites five leading European institutions: the University of Glasgow, Institut d'Études Supérieures des Arts in Paris, the School of Arts and Humanities at the Universidade de Lisboa, the University Institute of Lisbon, and Erasmus University Rotterdam. Together, they provide a multidisciplinary perspective on art and cultural heritage management. Consortium members contribute specialized knowledge in collections history, art markets, cultural law, and heritage economics. Graduates receive a joint degree from four partner universities (UofG, ISCTE, FLUL & EUR) and a Professional Certificate from IESA. By blending historical analysis, theoretical study, and practical training, MAGMa prepares professionals to thrive in this dynamic, fast-evolving sector. The curriculum includes international mobility, with internship opportunities in both private and public cultural institutions. This interdisciplinary approach equips graduates with versatile skills for leadership roles in public or private art and heritage organizations, or for advanced academic research. The program welcomes students from varied backgrounds—such as art history, cultural studies, law, or business—who seek to understand and manage the global art and heritage landscape.
