The Electronics and Nanoscale Engineering research division hosts over 70 graduate researchers specializing in areas ranging from atomic force microscopy to quantum sensors, high-speed optical components, and atomistic device modeling.
Students gain access to cutting-edge facilities including the James Watt Nanofabrication Centre (JWNC) and the Kelvin Nanocharacterisation Centre. The JWNC boasts multiple world records in nanofabrication, particularly for nanoelectronic and optoelectronic device performance.
In the past five years, the JWNC has collaborated with more than 250 global corporations and partnered with over 90 universities worldwide on nanoscience initiatives. Each PhD candidate receives guidance from at least two supervisors, with one taking an active role in their research. With 50+ students in the Division, a strong community spirit develops, often leading to enduring professional relationships. Students join a Graduate School committed to exceptional support, fostering an intellectually vibrant environment that cultivates future leaders while contributing to cultural, societal, and economic advancement.
