Neuroscience examines the structure and function of the nervous system across the lifespan, from early development to aging, in both healthy and diseased states. This rapidly growing scientific field investigates how the brain and nervous system interact with other bodily systems and the external world. The program delves into nervous system functions from molecular mechanisms to cognitive processes, emphasizing modern and emerging technologies that advance our knowledge of brain health and disorders.
The curriculum spans all levels of neuroscience, from cellular processes to higher cognition. Students learn from leading neuroscience researchers who teach throughout the program while maintaining active, innovative laboratories. An MSci pathway is available, featuring a professional placement in industry or academic research between the third and fourth years. Final-year students can pursue research projects in laboratory settings, public engagement initiatives, or educational outreach programs.
The final year offers diverse research-focused courses, allowing students to specialize in specific neuroscience interests. The program provides training in research methodology, data management, statistical analysis, and scientific writing. All courses are designed to cultivate transferable skills that prepare graduates for various career paths.
Alumni have pursued diverse professional trajectories, including roles as research scientists in academia and pharmaceuticals, further education in medicine, careers in education and law, as well as non-scientific positions in government, human resources, and consulting.
