Mathematics is an expansive and continually evolving field that delves into numerical, geometric, and logical connections. Our program offers a broad selection of honors-level courses to choose from. Through our ambassador initiative, students can gain firsthand teaching experience in schools while building essential professional competencies.
The ambassador program enables students to observe classroom instruction directly while honing valuable career skills. The MacLaurin Society (or MacSoc), serves as the university's Mathematics and Statistics organization. Established in the 1950s and named after Scottish mathematician Colin MacLaurin, it fosters a welcoming community for School of Mathematics students.
Our degree programs stand out for their adaptability, allowing students to pursue combined degrees with numerous subjects across the University. Popular combinations include Physics, Chemistry, and Economics, though students have recently paired mathematics with disciplines like English, French, Music, and Philosophy. Note that some combined Honors courses may have scheduling limitations.
Graduates frequently enter finance, computing, or postgraduate studies, while others apply their analytical and problem-solving expertise in industrial settings. Recent alumni have secured positions at: PricewaterhouseCoopers, Grant Thornton, Alexander Sloan, Cigna
Deloitte, Royal Bank of Scotland, and Credit Suisse.
