Biomedical engineering focuses on creating engineering solutions for healthcare challenges. This fast-growing field addresses medical needs by advancing technological innovations.
Our program maintains close collaborations with the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Spinal Injuries Unit via the Scottish Centre for Innovation in Spinal Cord Injury. The curriculum emphasizes Medical Device Regulation, with final-year students completing an Entrepreneurship in Biomedical Engineering course to gain startup skills. MEng candidates participate in six-month placements at industrial partners, international universities, or University of Glasgow research facilities. Both our BEng and MEng programs hold accreditation from the Institute of Engineering and Technology, Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine, and Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Student organizations like GUBMES, Sensus, and Handprints offer engagement opportunities, including hospital visits. Industry partnerships with NHS and engineering firms provide guest lectures, project collaborations, and internship opportunities.
Our alumni work across manufacturing, healthcare, and various sectors worldwide. The program also serves as excellent preparation for medical school applications.
