The Life Geographies research collective unites scholars, investigators, and graduate students focused on exploring the spatial dynamics and political dimensions arising from the interplay between living organisms and physical environments, encompassing both human and non-human domains, as well as the intersections of vitality, wellbeing, illness, technological systems, and biological processes.
Our interdisciplinary approach incorporates insights from modern geography and social sciences, spanning Science and Technology Studies, Animal Geographies, Biopolitical theory, Discard Studies, Embodied Space research, Health and Disease scholarship, and Ethical frameworks. Our research spans diverse settings - from scientific labs to agricultural landscapes, from wilderness areas to urban ecosystems, and medical facilities worldwide, with projects extending from South Asia to North America, from Australia to Northwest England.
We engage broadly with geographical scholarship while maintaining strong partnerships with Exeter-based institutions including Egenis, the Global Systems Institute (GSI), the Living Systems Institute (LSI), and the Wellcome Centre for Cultures and Environments of Health, alongside numerous international universities and research organizations, to advance comprehension of how space shapes life processes, health outcomes, material existence, and knowledge production.
