Shifting toward an equitable and eco-conscious future stands as this era's defining challenge. The Environment and Sustainability research team conducts interdisciplinary, globally-focused studies examining the principles, methodologies, and policies underlying all key aspects of societal and ecological sustainability - spanning public health and quality of life to risk assessment, ethical considerations, and concepts of space and belonging.
Our researchers have extensive publications across diverse fields including geography, economics, psychology, environmental studies, sociology, political science, and international development. Notable achievements include Saffron O'Neill receiving a Leverhulme Fellowship for climate communication studies, Federico Caprotti earning a Newton Prize for investigating off-grid energy solutions in South African cities, Neil Adger being honored with the BBVA Frontiers of Knowledge award for climate research, Catherine Mitchell and Patrick Devine-Wright's contributions to the IPCC, and the recognition of Patrick Devine-Wright, Katrina Brown, and Neil Adger as ISI Highly Cited researchers.
