Faculty members in Modern Languages explore diverse fields such as literary studies, linguistics, translation studies, and film analysis. We guide PhD candidates investigating topics spanning from medieval to contemporary eras across our seven primary languages, often collaborating with other departments in the College of Humanities for interdisciplinary projects.Our Chinese Studies program combines scholarship in Chinese literature, translation, cultural studies, art history, intellectual history, modern Chinese foreign policy, China-Middle East relations, and China-Europe cultural exchanges.This group organizes the College-wide Chinese Studies Seminar Series and oversees the Global China Research Centre, fostering interdisciplinary research on China across humanities, arts, and social sciences.
