The Centre for Research in STEM Education (CRISTEME) unites academics and doctoral researchers focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education. We take a comprehensive approach to education, covering formal schooling, informal learning environments, and STEM teacher training. Our definition of STEM disciplines is inclusive, spanning fields like geosciences, environmental sciences, and medical education, while recognizing information and communications technology (ICT) as crucial both for its technological connections and its role in enabling innovative research and teaching methods. Beyond specific research projects, we collectively examine foundational questions about scientific understanding, public engagement with science, and their societal impacts on education. This leads us to investigate complex socio-scientific challenges and STEM education's relevance to modern citizenship, particularly in addressing critical issues like sustainability, climate change, and social justice. Our work benefits from seminars featuring prominent national and international experts and informs our participation in university-wide STEM initiatives.
Our postgraduate programs are tailored to advance your career in specialized educational fields. Graduates will gain comprehensive academic, personal, and professional competencies. Alongside the College's dedicated Employability Officer, our Career Zone provides extensive business networks, support services, training opportunities, and regular employer networking events. Research students can participate in our specialized Postgraduate Researchers' Program, which prepares them for successful academic careers through targeted skill development and research training.
