The Department of Mathematics Education (previously known as the Mathematics Education Centre) ranks among the UK's most prominent research groups in mathematics education. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, 85% of our research output was classified as world-class or internationally outstanding, placing us near the top of all UK education departments.
Our investigations concentrate on two key areas: Culture, Pedagogy and Identity, along with Mathematical Cognition. We examine core aspects of mathematical learning while also developing and assessing innovative teaching methods.
Department faculty have received prestigious national and global recognition for their scholarly work and teaching approaches grounded in research. They collaborate with experts across the UK, organizing regular seminars and workshops that draw participants from throughout the area. As a student, you'll gain from these events as well as our reading group meetings.
