Contemporary scientific progress thrives on combining multiple fields and connecting fundamental research with practical applications. This demands scientists skilled in transcending conventional academic silos through innovative thinking and experimentation. The newly founded Living Systems Institute (LSI) at the University of Exeter facilitates this approach by bringing together top-tier researchers from biology, physics, mathematics, computer science, and engineering, all utilizing state-of-the-art technologies.
Our goal is to comprehend biological systems at every level - from atomic structures to complete living beings - and develop new methods for enhancing wellbeing and combating illnesses. We're excited to open applications for our inaugural cross-disciplinary PhD program starting fall 2020. We seek exceptionally talented and creative candidates from all academic backgrounds to become part of our vibrant community of more than 60 doctoral researchers.
