Program OverviewThe MRes Economics (Pathway to PhD) is a two-year program designed to equip students with the essential skills for contemporary economic research. This program is ideal for those aiming to pursue a PhD in economics or related social sciences.During the first year, students will master fundamental economic models, econometric methods, and research methodologies.The second year focuses on specialized modules in advanced areas such as econometric theory, empirical economics, microeconomic theory, and macroeconomic theory. Course topics span diverse fields including auctions, computational economics, education, fiscal policy, gender studies, health economics, human development, inequality, labor economics, machine learning, network analysis, sexual orientation research, taxation, and voting behavior.Upon completing the second year, students will possess the necessary skills to undertake an MRes dissertation. This research project, supervised by a faculty member, allows students to apply their acquired skills while developing expertise in their chosen specialization.Successful graduates will advance to the three-year PhD Economics program at the University of Exeter, benefiting from mentorship by our globally recognized faculty throughout the transition to doctoral studies.

Qualification Requirements

A 2:1 degree with honours in Economics or related discipline. Evidence of mathematical/quantitative ability is required. Degrees in Mathematics, Engineering, Physics or Statistics are also considered. We do consider all applications where there is evidence of exceptional performance in modules relevant to the programme of study. IELTS :6.5 overall and no less than 6 in any section and TOEFL:90 with minimum scores of 21 for writing, listening, reading and speaking.
