The Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies provides MPhil Creative Writing supervision across all areas of faculty research expertise. Our creative writing program is rapidly expanding, supporting all genres with guidance from published novelists, poets, and playwrights on our faculty, complemented by an inspiring lineup of visiting authors through the Essex Book Festival.
Many alumni have launched successful writing careers, while others have become scholars, academics, educators, publishing professionals, media specialists, arts managers, theater directors, drama consultants, and language translators

A 2:2 degree in one of the following subjects: Art History, Creative Writing, History, Journalism, Literature, Media Studies, Music, Performing Arts, Philosophy, Politics, Sociology, Theatre/Drama Studies. IELTS 7.0 (6.5 in writing, with a minimum of 5.5 remaining components), TOEFL IBT 100 overall with minimum component scores: listening 17, reading 18, writing 26, and speaking 20.
