The MPhil in Applied Psychology provides a distinctive chance to conduct research within practical psychological settings. With psychology's diverse applications, your study could take place in environments such as schools, hospitals, outdoor programs, community organizations, or workplaces. You'll have the chance to enroll in our Masters-level research methods courses, building essential research competencies. Furthermore, you can participate in the University's Proficio research training initiative, selecting programs tailored to your research focus and methods.

The School of Health and Social Care collaborates closely with our Service User Reference Group (SURG), comprising individuals with lived experiences, caregivers, and volunteers who contribute valuable perspectives on healthcare systems. Together with SURG, we shape our curriculum to prioritize patient and client needs. SURG members participate in admissions processes and frequently join interview panels, helping us identify ideal candidates for both the program and their professional futures. They also contribute to teaching and research initiatives, offering you firsthand understanding of living with health conditions - enriching not just your clinical expertise but also your empathy, compassion, and advocacy skills.

This MPhil program offers flexible study options: 2 years full-time or 4 years part-time. Many candidates pursue an MPhil before a PhD to refine their research capabilities and showcase their dedication and time management to prospective advisors or funding bodies.
