Explore our MSci Tropical Marine Biology program and immerse yourself in the captivating realm of whales, coral reefs, marine life, deep ocean trenches, coastal ecosystems, polar seas, and tropical seagrass meadows.
At Essex, we offer an engaging blend of research and learning. This features multiple field excursion opportunities throughout the program (additional fees may apply). Our Indonesia trip to Wakatobi Marine National Park includes innovative underwater classroom sessions.
Tropical marine environments supply vital resources worldwide, with coral reefs representing the richest yet most endangered marine habitats. Our distinctive curriculum combines cutting-edge tropical marine science with essential practical training to meet modern industry demands.
Most of Earth's biodiversity exists beneath the waves, yet much remains undiscovered. Our program guides you from polar regions to the vibrant coral systems of the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Oceans, studying everything from coastal zones to open ocean environments, with emphasis on conservation and sustainable management.

With growing global environmental challenges, skilled marine biologists are increasingly sought after, and a Master's degree often proves essential for research positions, scientific roles, editorial work, and careers in public or private sectors.
Our alumni pursue diverse paths, including roles with government agencies, environmental NGOs, consulting firms, and research institutions, or progressing to PhD studies. International students frequently secure similar positions in their home countries.
