We focus on teaching impactful legal principles. Our approach is more innovative, bold, and unconventional compared to conventional law schools, ensuring your legal training remains current and adaptable to societal shifts. Our methodology has an international perspective, rooted in fairness, and directly addresses real-world challenges.
The four-year MLaw program (extended to five years with study abroad or placements) builds the same fundamental legal skills as the LLB while exploring advanced subjects for a master's qualification. You'll study all core legal disciplines plus diverse electives such as: Intellectual property law, Global environmental regulations, Legal studies in literature
Civil liberties, Forensic evidence applications
You'll cultivate a nuanced understanding of law's role within social, political, and economic frameworks. Beyond memorizing statutes, you'll examine law's societal purpose, legal philosophy, policy matters, and legislative improvements. Specialization options include three tracks: civil rights law, global legal systems, or business law.

At Essex, we don't merely train you for legal practice. We ignite your passion for justice and provide the tools to drive meaningful change, regardless of your professional direction.
From day one, we encourage expansive, strategic thinking about career possibilities. Our alumni have secured diverse positions with international bodies, global governments, financial institutions, NGOs, and naturally, within legal practice and judicial systems.
Our annual legal careers fair connects students with law firms and professional training providers. Graduates enter various fields including corporate sectors, finance, public service, education, social services, law enforcement, and beyond.
