For students lacking the necessary undergraduate background to begin our MA Philosophy program directly, this nine-month Graduate Diploma in Philosophy serves as an ideal foundation. It functions as a preparatory qualification for the MA Philosophy degree.
You'll have access to our diverse range of modules delivered by passionate, approachable, and highly knowledgeable faculty. Options include studies in ethics, phenomenology and existentialism, feminist theory, philosophy of religion, or modern political philosophy. The program culminates with a capstone module, thoroughly preparing you for advanced philosophical studies. At Essex, we empower you to focus on your specific academic interests.
Our Graduate Diploma requires completion of eight modules at third-year undergraduate level (with the option to take up to two second-year modules). Successful completion involves coursework, examinations, and potentially an independent research project on a chosen topic, subject to approval from your course director.
No matter which philosophical areas you explore, our teaching is firmly rooted in research, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary connections between philosophy and other academic fields.
