The Department of Literature, Film and Theatre Studies boasts a dynamic team of playwrights and theater professionals who actively work in the industry while teaching at the University. Five dedicated faculty members specialize in diverse fields including verbatim theater, performance studies, global theater traditions, digital performance, testimonial theater, and playwriting.
Graduate researchers enjoy access to the renowned Lakeside Theatre at our Colchester Campus, a long-standing hub for quality drama with a strong focus on original stage works. The venue features a 30-seat studio and a 200-seat main theater, regularly hosting professional touring productions while showcasing innovative works by both faculty and students.

Our alumni from the Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies have flourished as professional writers, while others have built careers as academics, educators, publishing professionals, media specialists, arts managers, theater directors, drama consultants, and language translators.

A 2:2 degree in one of the following subjects: Art History, Creative Writing, History, Journalism, Literature, Media Studies, Music, Performing Arts, Philosophy, Politics, Sociology, Theatre/Drama Studies. IELTS 7.0 (6.5 in writing, with a minimum of 5.5 remaining components), TOEFL IBT 100 overall with minimum component scores: listening 17, reading 18, writing 26, and speaking 20.
