The Department of Literature, Film and Theatre Studies boasts a dynamic team of theatre professionals who balance industry work with academic instruction. Five dedicated faculty members focus on diverse areas including verbatim theatre, performance studies, global theatre traditions, digital performance, testimonial theatre, and playwriting. Elizabeth Kuti earned the distinguished Susan Blackburn Award for her play 'The Sugar Wife' and has seen her works staged in London and broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Annecy Lax serves as Associate Artist with 'Ice and Fire,' creating and directing human rights-focused verbatim theatre. Liam Jarvis leads his innovative company 'Analogue,' exploring how digital advancements can transform theatrical experiences - his internationally touring work has earned a Fringe First at Edinburgh. Mary Mazilli researches contemporary Chinese theatre, having published two authoritative books, while also founding Lumenis Theatre Company. Jonathan Lichtenstein is an internationally produced playwright and fellow Fringe First recipient.
Our alumni from Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies have flourished as writers, while others have built careers as academics, educators, publishing professionals, media specialists, arts managers, theatrical leaders, drama consultants, and linguists.
