In 2022, the worldwide tourism sector contributed around 7.7 trillion USD to global GDP, supporting more than 295 million jobs. Projections indicate this employment figure could grow to 430 million by 2033. Encompassing diverse sectors like hospitality, transportation, and entertainment, the industry experienced significant recovery post-pandemic, nearly regaining its pre-crisis market position. As a vital economic driver across nations, tourism continues attracting new professionals annually.
The BA Tourism program at Edge Hotel School equips students for leadership positions in UK and international settings including cruise lines, aviation, event management, and travel agencies. First-year students gain hands-on experience through rotations at Wivenhoe House, a four-star hotel on Essex University's Colchester campus, complemented by industry expert lectures, consultancy work, and real-world projects.
Beyond hotel operations, the curriculum emphasizes collaborative initiatives with tourism enterprises. Students learn in Colchester, Britain's oldest documented town, surrounded by historic landmarks that draw global visitors. With proximity to London, coastal areas, and six international airports within two hours, students engage with regional tourism networks including major sites like Colchester Castle and Visit Essex.
The program offers international academic opportunities through partner institutions. Students can opt for a four-year track featuring a third year abroad for study or work placements, mirroring the three-year curriculum's content.
International study enhances cultural awareness, linguistic skills, and academic perspective while developing qualities employers value: adaptability, organizational ability, and global-mindedness.
