In today's interconnected world, transnational relationships shape our global landscape, making effective communication and accurate translation more crucial than ever. The BA Modern Languages Translation, Interpreting and Cultural Mediation program will transform you into not just a language specialist and cultural ambassador, but also a skilled translator with professional confidence.

Throughout this program, you'll master two languages selected from French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. Your primary language will reach Mastery level, while your secondary language will achieve Proficiency level. Heritage speakers—such as those raised in Italian-speaking homes within English-speaking environments—can significantly enhance their linguistic abilities in their native tongue through this course.

What sets this program apart from traditional Modern Language degrees is its specialized focus on translation, interpreting, subtitling, and cultural mediation alongside language and cultural studies. You'll gain practical expertise in translation and interpretation principles while developing key competencies in:

Cultural sensitivity - You'll acquire the ability to recognize and appreciate cultural distinctions, including diverse norms, values, and belief systems when working with different groups.
Conflict management - As intercultural mediation frequently requires bridging cultural divides, you'll master techniques to help conflicting parties identify shared understanding and develop mutually beneficial resolutions.
The program provides hands-on experience translating various written and spoken materials, encompassing audiovisual content along with both general and specialized texts. General texts employ everyday language, while specialized materials focus on particular professional fields.
