Our BA in Modern History enables you to explore British, European, and global history from the 18th century to today. This dynamic era witnessed groundbreaking discoveries and globalization—an age of swift transformation, devastating conflicts, and faith in social and scientific advancement.
From examining Atlantic slavery to tracing communist revolutions across China, Russia, and Latin America, from analyzing imperialism's legacy in India and Africa to studying the Cold War's roots and aftermath, you'll explore how ideas, cultures, and economies have intertwined over 250 years to shape our modern world.
With diverse optional modules available, you can focus on topics like colonialism, inequality, cultural identity, citizenship, multiculturalism, and human rights—studying both local and global perspectives.

Beyond gaining historical insight and contemporary understanding, this program equips you with valuable transferable skills. You'll develop abilities to evaluate diverse information, articulate arguments verbally and in writing, and collaborate effectively while working independently.
These competencies prepare graduates for diverse career paths. Our alumni have succeeded in education, library sciences, museums, civil service, local government, law enforcement, and archival work.
