Political affairs and global events take center stage in both national and worldwide news, influencing our daily experiences while also molding what lies ahead. Starting with a broad introduction to international relations during your initial year—covering subjects from the global political economy to security and conflict studies—you'll later select specialized areas to focus on, such as: Comparative government, International economic policy, Philosophical political thought, and Voter behavior.
Additionally, you'll learn two languages from Essex's offerings: French, German, Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese, achieving at least Proficiency level in one. These languages are highly valuable in international business and can bring you close to fluency. If Portuguese is taken as the major language, A Level pass (or equivalent) in Italian, French, Spanish or Portuguese or first language level fluency in Italian, French, Romanian or Spanish is required.

IB: 30 - 29 points or three Higher Level certificates with 555-554. Either must include Standard Level Mathematics grade 4, or a minimum of 3 in Higher Level Mathematics. We will accept grade 4 in either Standard Level Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Standard Level Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation.
To study Portuguese as your major language, you need a pass in Higher Level Italian, French, Spanish or Portuguese or fluency in Italian, French, Romanian or Spanish.
We are also happy to consider a combination of separate IB Diploma Programme courses (formerly certificates) at both Higher and Standard Level. Exact offer levels will vary depending on the range of subjects being taken at higher and standard level, and the course applied for.
