Political affairs and global events take center stage in both national and worldwide news, influencing our daily experiences while also molding what lies ahead. Starting with a broad introduction to international relations during your initial year—covering subjects from the global political economy to security and conflict studies—you'll later select specialized areas to focus on, such as: Comparative government, International economic policy, Philosophical political thought, and Voter behavior.
Additionally, you'll learn two languages from Essex's offerings: French, German, Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese, achieving at least Proficiency level in one. These languages are highly valuable in international business and can bring you close to fluency. Numerous alumni have built thriving international careers with firms seeking multilingual professionals.
Businesses and institutions across the UK and globally face challenges in finding graduates proficient in languages beyond English.
Graduating with modern language skills from Essex gives you a significant competitive edge. You'll achieve fluency or high competency in up to two languages—abilities that are in high demand across nearly every profession.
Our alumni pursue careers as educators, interpreters, civil servants, and media professionals. Their linguistic expertise has opened doors in industries ranging from finance and entertainment to education and hospitality, as well as with numerous multinational corporations.
