Our four-year BA History with Human Rights (including foundation year) is ideal if you don't currently meet the entry requirements for the three-year program but seek to enhance both your subject knowledge and academic skills.

This extended program begins with a foundation year, followed by three years of specialized study. Your foundation year includes three subject-specific courses plus essential academic skills training, with optional English language support for international students.

From day one, you'll join Essex's vibrant global community at the UK's most internationally diverse campus university.

After successfully completing your foundation year through Essex Pathways, you'll advance to a curriculum that combines historical study with human rights education, graduating with expertise in both fields.

Beginning in year one, you'll investigate human rights through historical perspectives, tracing their evolution while selecting relevant optional modules. Our program provides comprehensive training in both disciplines.

Essex leads global justice discussions, with our Human Rights Center recognized worldwide. Our collaborations with the UN, governments, NGOs, and corporations inform our internationally focused teaching.

You can explore diverse historical and human rights topics, including colonialism, social inequality, cultural studies, identity politics, citizenship, and multiculturalism.
