The roots of today's legal framework trace back centuries. Case law represents the tangible implementation of historical precedents that shape current rulings. This forward-thinking program examines various historical eras and contemporary legal practices across multiple fields, fostering a distinctive understanding of how crucial historical events continue to influence legal outcomes.

You'll receive comprehensive instruction in both history and law through this program. The curriculum cultivates critical thinking, reflection, and analytical abilities essential to both fields. While highlighting their similarities, you'll also examine their distinctions and the unique methodologies employed in legal versus historical analysis. The program offers structured introductions to both disciplines alongside elective options that let you focus on personal interests.

At Essex, we go beyond training exceptional legal or historical professionals. We ignite your passion for justice while providing the tools and knowledge to drive meaningful change, regardless of your chosen career path. From day one, we encourage deep, broad, and strategic thinking about professional trajectories. During your first two years, alongside core legal studies, you'll complete career development modules to identify strengths, clarify objectives, understand employer expectations, and boost employability. Our annual law fair connects students with legal firms and professional certification providers. Graduates enter diverse fields including legal practice, business, finance, government, education, social services, and law enforcement.
