How can we comprehend criminal behavior? Should offenses always face consequences? Criminologists tackle crucial societal challenges, choices, and moral questions. Our program examines crime, justice systems, and penalties within broader social frameworks. Collaborating with the Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies, this course investigates crime's societal aspects while incorporating counseling studies that explore emotional challenges and interpersonal connections. You'll enhance your relational skills and develop a compassionate, insightful approach valuable to employers and colleagues. The curriculum covers diverse subjects such as: Justice system operations Media representations of crime Psychological health interventions Counseling techniques Therapeutic relationships Students acquire sociological research skills including survey design, interview techniques, and focus group facilitation. Psychodynamic principles relevant to counseling are introduced through modules from our psychoanalytic department, helping you understand unconscious individual and group dynamics while honing listening, observation, and communication abilities. Instruction comes from our Department of Sociology and Criminology's experts alongside counseling specialists from Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies, who combine academic rigor with clinical expertise. The program includes optional practical experience opportunities, international study options, or work placements to enhance career prospects. Students may undertake a research project on a chosen topic, fostering innovative thinking and engagement with current debates to prepare for professional life. International Study Opportunities Learning extends beyond campus through study abroad options at partner institutions. Our four-year variant includes a full year abroad or an international placement during the third year, maintaining identical curriculum standards. Professional Placement Option A dedicated placement year allows students to gain industry experience, building professional networks and improving employment competitiveness post-graduation.
A-levels: BBB - BBC or 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of 2 full A-levels.
BTEC: DDM - DMM or 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of the equivalent of 2 full A-levels.
Combined qualifications on the UCAS tariff: 120 - 112 UCAS tariff points from a minimum of 2 full A levels or equivalent.
IB: 30 - 29 points or three Higher Level certificates with 555-554.
IB Career-related Programme: We consider combinations of IB Diploma Programme courses with BTECs or other qualifications.
QAA-approved Access to HE Diploma: 6 level 3 credits at Distinction and 39 level 3 credits at Merit, depending on subject studied - advice on acceptability can be provided
T-levels: We consider T-levels on a case-by-case basis, depending on subject studied. The offer for most courses is Distinction overall. Depending on the course applied for there may be additional requirements, which may include a specific grade in the Core.
