Our BA Creative Writing (including foundation year) is ideal if you don't currently meet the entry requirements for the standard three-year program and need a course that builds both your subject expertise and academic abilities to enhance your performance.
This four-year program begins with a foundation year (Year Zero), followed by three years of specialized study. In Year Zero, you'll explore three subjects related to your chosen field alongside a mandatory academic skills module, with extra English language support available for non-native speakers.
From day one, you'll be part of Essex's vibrant global community, studying at the UK's most internationally diverse campus university.
Upon successfully completing Year Zero through our Essex Pathways Department, you'll advance to finish your degree with our Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies.

Qualification Requirements
All applications for degree courses with a foundation year (Year Zero) will be considered individually, whether you
think you might not have the grades to enter the first year of a degree course;
have non-traditional qualifications or experience (e.g. you haven’t studied A-levels or a BTEC);
are returning to university after some time away from education; or
are looking for more support during the transition into university study.
Standard offer:
Our standard offer is 72 UCAS tariff points from at least two full A-levels, or equivalent.
