This program enables you to explore art history and theory while learning French (post-A Level), German, Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese (either post-A Level or from beginner level).
You'll experience a unique curriculum spanning the entire history of art, offering diverse specialization options while developing fluency in one or more languages. The course includes engagement with artworks ranging from Old Masters to Pre-Raphaelites, Surrealists, and cutting-edge contemporary art and visual culture.
The curriculum examines various artistic mediums, including architecture, urban design, photography, video, painting, drawing, printmaking, performance art, and sculpture. We've incorporated specialized tracks for curatorial and museum careers, with annual modules focusing on museum studies, exhibition design, and gallery management. You can either start learning a new language to complement your studies or enhance existing language skills.
Both UK and international employers face challenges finding multilingual graduates proficient in languages beyond English. Linguistic abilities are highly sought-after and applicable across virtually all professions.
Our BA Art History with Modern Languages alumni pursue careers as curators, educators, translators, and journalists. Their language proficiency has opened doors in various sectors including finance, entertainment, media, education, and tourism for both domestic and global organizations.
