Recognized as the inaugural UNESCO World City of Literature and a prominent cultural center, Edinburgh provides the perfect setting for examining literature comparatively and exploring its connections with other artistic disciplines.

Our intensive one-year Masters program (previously titled MSc in Comparative and General Literature) leverages exceptional academic resources spanning diverse literatures, languages, and cultures worldwide - from Scotland to Asia, Scandinavia to the Middle East. The course offers flexible study options, available either full-time for one year or part-time across two years.

By fostering a global learning community, we embody comparative literature principles in our teaching environment. Here, you'll refine your critical thinking, analytical abilities, and research methodologies while engaging with literary texts from various linguistic traditions and cultural frameworks.
