This program, created in collaboration with the NHS, blends academic instruction with hands-on clinical training in child and youth psychology.
It equips you with expertise in providing evidence-based psychological treatments for young populations, along with assessment and intervention skills for Tier two psychological services catering to children, adolescents, and their families.
Participants will complete a one-year clinical placement within Scotland's NHS Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services, obtaining practical experience implementing psychological principles under the guidance of licensed clinical psychologists.
While covering core competencies for health psychologists (including assessment, case formulation, and outcome evaluation) and child mental health specialists (such as child protection, developmental psychology, and health advocacy), the curriculum emphasizes therapeutic approaches, early childhood development, and preventative care. Significant attention is given to parenting support through research-backed intervention models.
